How it works

A bill of lading is the receipt and contract for a shipment: who ships it, who receives it, the carrier, what is on the trailer and how freight charges are paid. The driver, shipper and receiver each sign it, and any shortage or damage is noted on it at delivery.

This is a simple, non-negotiable straight bill of lading to start from. It is not legal advice: your carriers' terms and the tariffs that apply to your freight, such as the NMFC classification for less-than-truckload shipments, can require particular wording or fields. Hazardous materials need the shipping papers the regulations require.
